Large Deviations for Global Maxima of Independent Superadditive Processes with Negative Drift and an Application to Optimal Sequence Alignments

چکیده
We examine the distribution of the global maximum of an independent superadditive process with negative drift. We show that, under certain conditions, the distribution’s upper tail decays exponentially at a certain rate that can be characterized as the unique positive zero of some limiting logarithmic moment generating function. This limiting logarithmic moment generating function in some sense describes the asymptotic single step distribution of the process. The result extends in a natural way the corresponding result from the world of random walks. We apply our results to sequence alignments with gaps. Calculating p-values of optimal gapped alignment scores still is one of the most challenging mathematical problems in bioinformatics. Our results provide a better understanding of the tail of the optimal score’s distribution, especially on the level of large deviations. Although a mathematical satisfying description of the optimal score’s distribution is still far from reach, our results fit nicely into the common practice of statistical evaluation of optimal alignment results.

Change point estimation in the area of statistical process control has received considerable attentions in the recent decades because it helps process engineer to identify and remove assignable causes as quickly as possible. On the other hand, improving in measurement systems and data storage, lead to taking observations very close to each other in time and as a result increasing autocorrelatio...

Let be a sequence of weakly negative dependent (denoted by, WND) random variables with common distribution function F and let be other sequence of positive random variables independent of and for some and for all . متن کاملConcept drift detection in business process logs using deep learning
Process mining provides a bridge between process modeling and analysis on the one hand and data mining on the other hand. Process mining aims at discovering, monitoring, and improving real processes by extracting knowledge from event logs. However, as most business processes change over time (e.g. the effects of new legislation, seasonal effects and etc.), traditional process mining techniques ...
متن کاملComputing Optimal Alignments for the IBM-3 Translation Model
Prior work on training the IBM-3 translation model is based on suboptimal methods for computing Viterbi alignments. In this paper, we present the first method guaranteed to produce globally optimal alignments. This not only results in improved alignments, it also gives us the opportunity to evaluate the quality of standard hillclimbing methods. Indeed, hillclimbing works reasonably well in prac...
متن کاملAn Application of the ABS LX Algorithm to Multiple Sequence Alignment
We present an application of ABS algorithms for multiple sequence alignment (MSA). The Markov decision process (MDP) based model leads to a linear programming problem (LPP), whose solution is linked to a suggested alignment. The important features of our work include the facility of alignment of multiple sequences simultaneously and no limit for the length of the sequences. Our goal here is to ...
